Littera scripta manet
What would be the world without the great authors ? What would be the world without their immortal works that inspire generation after generation ? Their works give humans the basis to make the great discoveries and inventions. They are the ones who keep the legends alive. Everything said will be forgotten, everything sang will be forgotten, but the words that are written will survive through the ages. The words that are written on paper will remind the future generations that their ancestors once existed and created. The words written on paper will leave mysteries to solve for the future generations, things to wonder, things to discover. Just retelling the ancient legends and myths is not enough; only writing them down will save them for your children and the children of their children. Everything written with dedication holds magic. The only man rich is the one that has his deeds written on paper. Thus will the people remember him. He will live in their minds until the day of Ragnarjokr. There are not many authors dedicated to retelling the old vampire legends. Especially nowadays, when in our modern society which is so well educated in the "art" of destroying wonders there is lesser and lesser place for mysteries, things without a scientific explanation. Nowadays people tend to think they are equals to the gods and keep on blabbing and blabbing about things they do not really understand, they keep on giving determinations and explanations of the inexplicable. Oh, what pathetic fools humans have become. They think that with each day they come closer and closer to the "truth", the ultimate answer to all questions but they are all wrong, with each day they come closer and closer to their own destruction and make bigger and bigger the distance between them and the ultimate answer. The mystical writers are the ones to remind them that not all things have to be searched in science. They are the ones who help the human spirit to continue the struggle with the narrow-minded society, which has put its heavy chains on it. Their works help the humans' immortal souls escape the prison of their mortal physical forms though only for a little while. Never forget to honour the ones who make your existence more extraordinary and exciting - the great mystical authors ...

Bram (Abraham) Stoker (1847-1912)
His reputation as an author stands almost wholly on his novel "Dracula". Who has not read "Dracula" ? Who has not seen the movies based on his immortal novel ? Though Bram Stoker's novel can be found under "Fiction" in the library, there are many true facts in it. You have to be a historian to notice them though. If you know how to read between the paragraphs, the novel will absorb you totally and will make you want more, it will make you do researches on the historical figure behind the fearful nickname - "Dracula". When you learn everything about him, about Prince Vladislaus, you may even come to love him, his power, and his might. You will come to understand that though a villain in the movies, Dracula was actually a hero, one of the last defenders of the Orthodox Christian faith, one of the last proud leaders, one of the last Knights. But enough of Count Vlad; Who was Bram Stoker, the person who popularized him, who made him a truly rich "man" ?
Bram Stoker was born in the city of Dublin, Ireland, on November 8, 1847. He was the third of seven children. His mother was a charity worker and writer and his father was a civil servant in Dublin Castle. The young Bram was a sickly child and spent a lot of time in bed. Growing up he was told a lot of scary stories by his mother. After a long and incapacitating childhood illness e attended a private day school near home. He studied mathematics at Trinity College Dublin and graduated in 1867. A very interesting fact about his studying at the college was that he became the school's athletics champion. He was the best footballer in the college as well as an unbeatable road walker. After graduation, Stoker followed his father's example and became a civil servant. At this time, he also worked as a drama critic and freelance journalist. At the age of 27, he met his idol, the famous actor - Sir Henry Irving. They had common interests and soon became best friends. Two years later, Abraham accepted a job as a personal secretary to Irving and went to England in 1878. Before he went to England however, he married the beautiful - Florence Balcombe. They had one son - Noel, who was born 1879. An interesting fact about Stoker's relationship with Florence is that before she fell in love with him, she was engaged to the great poet and storywriter - Oscar Wilde. The author of "Dracula" was a close friend to the Wilde family. Rumours say that after his fiancee left him and married Abraham Stoker, Wilde lost his fate in the womankind and became gay. Before he left Ireland, Stoker also published his first book- "The Duties of Clerks of Petty Sessions in Ireland". The novel that made Bram Stoker famous- "Dracula", was first published in 1887. Its price was six penny. The author had a Hungarian friend, who was a history lector in the Budapest University. He was the one who first mentioned to him the name "Draculea"(From Romanian "drac"- "dragon" and "ulea"- "son of"). The name held a hypnotic power to Stoker and after his friend told him the story of Prince Vlad and the East European "un-dead bloodsuckers", he got totally fascinated and decided to write a novel based on the myth. The novel took him 9 years to complete. The great author died in London, in 1912. Stoker died at the age of 64 of exhaustion. Although best known for his "Dracula", Abraham Stoker wrote 18 books before his death.

Anne Rice
She is the living proof that glory does not always come after death. Anne Rice is one of the world's most popular and read authors. She is the author of 25 hit novels. You can find everything in her books- religion, history, psychology, mystics etc. She is most well known for her vampire chronicles. They are 9 in number - "Interview With The Vampire", "The Vampire Lestat", "The Queen Of The Damned", "The Tale Of The Body Thief", "Memnoch The Devil", "The Vampire Armand", "Merrick", "Vittorio The Vampire", "Pandora", and the tenth - "Blood And Gold(The Story Of Marius)" is soon to be released. The vampire chronicles tell the stories of a few vampires, they tell about their adventures in the human world. From the way Anne Rice retells their stories it seems like they are real. Rice is one of those authors who possess an unrivalled capacity to create atmosphere, who can make you feel what her character feels, who can make you ask yourself "Am I still on this world ?". Anne's characters are very unique in their own way and none of them is perfect, each of them has his positive and negative turns. They are vampires, creatures of the night, demons who take human lives and yet none of them is an incarnation of the pure evil. That is why they have so many fans all over the globe. Almost everyone can find his alter ego in Anne's vampire chronicles. Her vampires are what mortal men have always dreamed to be. She gives her fans what they most need, one of the things that all people need- hope. The hope that exactly YOU amongst all of your kind will be the lucky one, the chosen one, the one who will be blessed with the dark gift- the gift of everlasting existence. Anne Rice's vampires represent the victory of the mortals over death.
Like William Shakespeare's Hamlet says in his famous monologue "But the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have,
Than fly to others that we know not of.
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all ..."

"Death" is what humans have always feared and will always fear until they learn what exactly the "death" is. It is a mystery to them and therefor they are afraid. They need idols to pray to and Anne's vampires are those idols. If humans were immortal too, they would probably have regarded her characters as nothing more than just a bunch of bloodthirsty beasts, but they are not and therefor they will continue worshiping the dominant vampire specie.
Anne was born in New Orleans(Louisiana), on October 4th, 1941. The second of four daughters to Katherine and Howard O'Brien, the baby girl was given the name "Howard", after her father. As a child her father was often ridiculed for having a feminine name and later on Anne was ridiculed for having a way too masculine name so she renamed herself on her first day at school. When asked by a nun what her name was, she immediately said "Anne". From that day on, everyone called her "Anne". When her mother died in July of 1956, Anne lost her best friend. Howard O'Brien eventually remarried and in 1958 he was transferred by the company he worked for to Richardson, Texas. There, in her new High School, she met Stan Rice. They were both new to Richardson and Stan was a year younger than her. Anne and Stan became best friends but started dating after Anne had graduated. In 1960 Stan and Anne slpit. He went to study in Denton and Anne moved to San Francisco. This made their contact consist of correspondence only. Apparently their love grew stronger and in 1961 our beloved author received a telegram from her boyfriend proposing marriage. Anne accepted and in the same year they married in Texas. However they continued their education. In 1966 Anne was happy to find out that she was pregnant. Her baby was born on September 21, 1966, and was named Michele. In 1969 the Rices moved to Berkley. Anne wrote a novella called "Katherine and Jean" and many publishers showed interest in it. Stan also was receiving a comparatively recognition for his poetry. In 1970 Michele was diagnosed with leukemia. On August 5th, 1972, their daughter died of her disease. Anne and Stan lost their will to live. They spend the next few years mourning their loss. In 1976, "Interview With The Vampire" was published and it was an unbelievable success for Anne. In 1979, Anne was blessed with another child. They named the baby boy - Christopher. Anne continued with her "The Vampire Chronicles" and all her works turned out to be a great success. Anne's story continues ...
