Every culture has its mythology. Every country has its heroes, and its monsters. Every city has its legends. If a phenomenon which has no medical explanation can be found in myths and legends all over the world, does it mean that it is real ?
Werewolves are one of the storytellers' favourite heroes. These supernatural creatures are said to be the dominant species. They are beasts blessed with human intelligence. Werewolves have human shaped bodies but are covered with fur, and claim the face of a wolf. Anyone could become a werewolf once bitten by one of Fenrir's deomn wolves. Fenrir is a mythical giant wolf from the Scandinavian mythology. He is the son of the evil god Loki and lives in Helheim(the Viking equivalent of the Christian Hell), but often goes out to hunt with his two children - Skul and Hoti Hrodvittnison, and his pack of demon wolves. In ancient Scandinavia, the most fearful warriors were the so-called "Berserkers". They were possessed by a wild spirit called "Berserk" during the battle. The Berserkers did not know the meaning of the word "fear". They acted like wild animals during the battle, they made the sounds of wild animals, some say that they even looked like wild animals ...
They possessed great strength and no matter how deadly their wounds were, they continued fighting ! Their wounds magically healed after the battle. In peaceful times, the Berserkers looked just like ordinary men and they were not as aggresive as most Vikings were. In ancient times werewolves were practically immortal.
During the Renaissance the werewolf myth gained popularity. Many alchemists claimed that the only way to destroy such a creature is to shoot it with a silver bullet. They also claimed that people become werewolves only when there is a full moon. This myth survived through the centuries and spread all over the world. It is the most popular and trusted nowadays.
A werewolf can be anyone. Even your neighbour, your closest friend, or perhaps a member of your family ! Beware ... for you do not know what is lurking behind you in the dark night ...
